Medium reveal

19 Mar

The big reveal will come once I’ve painted the walls and ceiling (this weekend), but in the meantime, here is the bathroom as completed by the contractors:

The not-quite-installed toilet.

The cute little sink.

So here’s the scoop — the 1964 Eljer toilet is not a member of the universe contained within the universal complete toilet kit I purchased at the Home Depot. The hole where the tank joins the toilet is smaller (2.5 inches, I think) than the standard. So I’m searching for the right size flapper/flush valve assembly. The fill mechanism from the universal kit works with this, and I’m fairly sure I’ll be able to find the right valve somewhere. You’d be surprised how many speciality web sites there are that sell random plumbing parts. Maybe you wouldn’t be, but I was.

So, now to get all the little bits and bobs and finish everything up. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out! It does indeed look like it has always been there and has enough oddities (weird joints, jutting pipes) to fit with my old house vibe. How strange it will be to shower in my home! I’m just going to give it a go and then return to my beloved tub, but I’ll definitely be trying it out.
