Mattoon Street Arts Festival

28 Aug

The 40th Mattoon Street Arts Festival will be held Saturday & Sunday September 8th & 9th (the weekend after Labor Day). To celebrate the 40th festival and the 40th anniversary of the Mattoon-Quadrangle Historic District, we’re having lots of special events. There will be home tours on Saturday, garden tours on Sunday (my home and garden are on both of those), a coloring contest, a commemorative poster for sale, and over 100 exhibitors. Check out the website: www.MattoonFestival.org for more info, and buy tickets in advance at www.SpringfieldPreservationTrust.org

Here’s a flyer you can download and share. It’s going to be a fun and packed festival!

The new drapes

25 Aug

The drapes I ordered from Factory Direct Drapes online are FABULOUS. The fabric is a nobby silk in a diamond pattern, very heavy and high quality. They’re lined perfectly in heavy black out fabric, and they’re pinch pleats. I’m doing something wrong with the traverse rods (that I aim to fix), but they hang really nicely. They’re a smidgeon long, but that’s okay. These were a great deal, and really finish off the look of the room.

I hope the photos look better than the older ones — I got a new iPhone this week and it has an 8 megapixel camera (my old one was a 4 megapixels) and it takes great pictures — and so easy to deal with without all those wires. I have a few more projects to go before the festival….

Love my dogs?

18 Aug

I’ve started a tumblr blog (I know, I know — a tumblr blog AND an iPhone — I’m entering the 21st century!) with photos of Trixie and Taggy (and the cats if they feel like it): http://trixieandtaggy.tumblr.com Check it out if you want to see pictures of those two fool dogs doing fool dog things.

Blue on blue

18 Aug

I often have tunes pop into my head and become associated with people or situations or things. Right now, I’ve got Bobby Vinton’s “Blue on Blue” running through my mind. “Mood Indigo” is my back fence theme song. I’m all about blue.

I just had the canopy over the door fixed and painted and a touch up painting of the windows on the 2nd floor (aka “Parlor Level”). The guy did a great job. He mentioned that there were a lot of spiders. Ick. I’ll definitely be hiring him for other handyman projects. Really good work, really neat, and a nice guy.

So now I have the nicest stoop in the hood! My pictures are not so great, but fear not, dear readers, I have just ordered an iPhone (finally joining the smart-phone world) and it has an 8 mpx camera (as opposed to my 4 mpx camera — which was pretty fancy in 2006, okay?). So I should be able to take better pictures soon and upload them without all these wires and things.

Drapey drapes

14 Aug

About six weeks ago, I ordered some custom pinch-pleat drapes from Factory Direct Drapes (.com).

They said they’d take about six weeks to arrive, and voila — here they are.

They were certainly very carefully packaged! They look great and well made. Very crisp in the pleat department. I haven’t gotten traverse rods yet (have to look this weekend), so I can’t hang them yet. Grr, but I think they’re going to look super! And they came on a funny little mini-hanger, too. Oh la la!

Taggy!!!

4 Aug

I adopted a second Boston Terrier today! Acutally, I think he’s a Frenchton (part BT part French Bulldog). Trixie’s boyfriend is a Frenchie, so we’re going to say Taggy is their son (even though at 8 years old he’s older than the two of them combined). He’s a funny looking little creature — gremlin bullfrog.

He and Trixie seem to be settling in together just fine and the cats couldn’t care less (he’s smaller than the cats and they might think he’s a toy).  He likes to chew on toys and makes crazy grumbling noises when he does. This is a very cute little dog!

Here he is!!!
